It is what it is. Each dorm functions as a community. We have campus buildings, with full facilities much like apartment buildings and studios, and kids.
And we still have sex. Many of our friends in residential life have started successful relationships while dating residents — though after the professional relationship has ended. The Resident Advisor is directly responsible to their Senior Resident. The Resident Advisor partners with Resident Staff as a whole to enhance the intellectual, social, and cultural experience of students at the University. They also represent the needs of their students. The Resident Advisor’s effectiveness is dependent upon the relationship they establish with the residents. This adult-to-adult, non-paternal relationship centers on the Resident Advisor’s sincere desire to encourage the development of a residence community that fosters personal and academic growth and, in the case of first-year and transfer students, eases the adjustment to University life.
The Resident Advisor is expected to incorporate these core values into their respective roles. In fulfilling their responsibilities, Resident Advisors look to the Senior Resident who provides supervision, advice, and overall coordination, along with the Chair s and HRL professional staff who provide additional advice and support. Additional responsibilities and expectations will be communicated during trainings and throughout the year. Parking permits are not part of the Resident Staff remuneration.

RA staff who live and work within the residence halls must recognize that, not date residents for whom they are directly responsible in their employment.
RAs are also expected to fulfill expectations outlined by the senior staff in the cluster or building. The Residential Life Department believes that, in most cases, when employee performance and behavioral expectations are not being met, supervisors should provide the employee with the opportunity to correct his or her behavior.
The personnel procedures and protocols for performance review may be used to help employees meet expectations and improve job performance. Personnel procedures can take the form of progressive discipline or summative discipline. Progressive discipline refers to increasing discipline depending on the severity or frequency of violations of expectations.
Formal disciplinary action can include, but is not limited to, the following actions: written warning, probation, termination, and suspension of duties. Disciplinary action will be based on the specific conditions of the incident.
